Old timer told me I was running the dredge pump too fast, finally listened after 3 years

Had a guy who's been on the river since the 80s watch me work for about 5 minutes. He just shook his head and said 'you're burning fuel and wearing out parts for nothing.' I always thought faster pump speed meant more material moved. Turns out I was just churning up water and burning through impellers. Dropped my RPMs by about 300 and my production actually went up 15 percent. Less wear on the whole system too. Has anyone else had an old hand call them out on something basic like that?

“Burning fuel for nothing.” I felt that in my wallet.

my gas station receipt yesterday was actually painful to look at, like $64 for a half tank in my civic. its not just fuel either, everything has this hidden "just because" tax now where prices go up and never come back down even when costs drop. grocery store prices are the same way, i swear a bag of chips costs what a whole meal used to 5 years ago. feels like we're all just paying extra for the privilege of existing at this point.
