Used a paint roller to texture a repair and it actually worked

I had this patch in a bedroom ceiling that was driving me nuts because my knockdown sprayer was clogged and I was on a deadline. Grabbed a 4-inch roller, dipped it in thinned out mud, and rolled it over the spot like I was painting. Anybody tried janky fixes that turned out better than the real tools?

...and it actually looked better than my last three knockdown patches combined. I did something similar with a sanding sponge and a half dried bucket of joint compound on a closet ceiling, ended up with this weird stippled texture that matched the rest of the room perfectly. Now I keep an old roller cover in my truck specifically for those 'my sprayer just died' moments, works every time.

Now I keep an old roller cover in my truck specifically for those 'my sprayer just died' moments" - isn't that just keeping a backup, not really a janky fix? Seems like you're making a bigger deal out of a sprayer problem than it really is.
