Appreciation post: the $3 salt shaker that saves me from bad thrift buys
Picked up a cracked salt shaker for $3 at a garage sale last month, and now I use it to test if ceramic stuff from thrift stores is actually microwave-safe by filling it with water and heating it up. Has anyone else got a weird cheap item that doubles as a test tool?
You ever think about testing how well a thrift store mug holds heat by using it as a pencil cup first? @jamieperez's cup holder trick got me thinking, since a mug that wobbles in my car probably isn't great for hot coffee either. I've killed two mugs this way, so now I always give them the car test before I commit to using them for anything hot.
