That one concrete contractor who showed up with a flatbed full of mismatched forms
Last summer I hired a guy from Sherwood Park to pour a small patio slab, and he brought six different types of rebar ties because he said 'you never know what the ground will throw at you.' He ended up spending an extra hour hand-splicing two sections where the base shifted weird. Has anyone else run into a contractor who over-prepares like that or is it just me?

Does that mean he's just super cautious or has he been burned before by bad ground conditions? I had a guy who brought three different sizes of gravel for base prep because he wanted to match whatever the soil was like. Honestly, I'd rather have someone show up overprepared than underprepared, saves everyone headaches later on.

Respectfully, gotta disagree a bit. Overprepared sometimes just means they don't know what they're walking into or they're covering for bad planning. Had a guy bring three different concrete mixes to a job once and spent half the day deciding which one to use instead of just calling the supplier to confirm the spec. Ended up with a patchy finish because he kept second-guessing himself. Being prepared is good, but if someone can't make a call and commit to it before they show up, that extra gear just means more time wasted while they stare at it.
