Vent: Just found out how many house fires start from old dryer vents
I was reading a report from the National Fire Protection Association last night, and it said dryer vents cause over 15,000 house fires a year. Fifteen THOUSAND. I've been in this trade for eight years and I guess I never really thought about it as a big fire risk, mostly just a clog that makes your dryer run slow. But the report said most of them are from not cleaning out the lint, and it builds up heat until it catches. I've seen some nasty vents full of lint behind dryers on service calls, but I never put the number that high. It makes me want to tell every customer to get theirs checked once a year, not just when the dryer stops working. Has anyone else started pushing vent cleaning as a regular service after seeing stuff like this?
