Serious question, is that $40 cable toner from the hardware store ever worth it?

Yeah, that false positive thing is rough... I've been burned by cheap toners too. I keep a basic continuity tester in my bag now as a backup check. It's slower but it never lies about a dead line.

Switched to a 4% mandelic acid toner for a client's texture issues...

Oh man, that reminds me of when I tried a mandelic serum for my own chin bumps. It was a 5% one from The Ordinary, and I swear it made my skin purge like crazy for a solid two weeks before it calmed down. Totally smoothed things out, but that initial phase had me worried!

Finally got my pour over to stop tasting bitter after a year of messing it up

My old roommate used to blast through his V60 pours in like twenty seconds flat. The coffee always tasted like burnt rubber, but he swore it was a "strong brew." I tried telling him to slow down, but he was convinced faster meant better. Some people just have to see that timer hit 45 seconds to get it, you know?

I went with a rock hammer over a chisel for my last field trip and people thought I was nuts

That part about the pick end being better for prying is so true. I got the same weird looks on a trip up north. Everyone had chisels for shale, but my hammer's pick was perfect for lifting up those thin sheets without shattering them. A chisel just wants to go straight down. Sometimes you need that sideways force to pop something loose cleanly. They stopped laughing when I had the best samples.

TIL our town's free composting bins end up costing more in the long run

Seriously? People get so worked up over this stuff. It's just how cities work, not some big secret.
