I thought the 'turn it off and on again' advice for a flickering smart bulb was a joke, but after it worked on my Philips Hue in the kitchen, I'm a believer.

I was convinced my $50 bulb was dying until a friend insisted I power cycle the bridge, which fixed the random disconnects I'd dealt with for a month.

Has anyone considered that maybe we shouldn't need to reboot a light bulb? My old dumb bulbs never needed troubleshooting, they just worked until they burned out. It feels like we're fixing software bugs in our lamps now.

My smart bulbs used to drop off the Wi-Fi constantly. I finally put them on a cheap smart plug schedule. The plug cuts power for one minute at 3am every night, forcing a reboot. They've been solid for months now. It's ridiculous, but it works.
