My entire photo library vanished right before a family trip

I was at my kitchen table in Seattle, trying to print some pictures from my phone for a scrapbook. I tapped the cloud sync button on my phone, thinking it would back things up, and watched in horror as over 2,000 photos just disappeared from my gallery. I spent the next hour in a panic, digging through the app's 'recently deleted' folder and finally found them all there, set to delete forever in 29 days. Has anyone else had a cloud service almost eat their memories because of one wrong tap?

Seattle's cloud backup sounds more like a digital shredder for your family photos.

That reminds me of when my cousin tried to save everything to one of those cheap thumb drives. The thing just died one day, took all his kid's baby videos with it. He learned the hard way that having just one copy is basically asking for trouble. Cloud stuff can be weird, but at least it's not sitting in a drawer where you can spill coffee on it. Makes you think about how we're all just trusting these digital boxes to hold our memories. Feels like we need like three different places for important stuff now.

Does it ever feel like we're all just one misclick away from losing our own history? I've started printing a handful of real photos each year because I don't trust any single system anymore, digital or physical. It's strange how much work it takes now to simply keep a picture safe.
