My phone got fried at the beach and now I'm paranoid

Honestly, I was at Myrtle Beach last month and left my phone on a towel for maybe 20 minutes. The sun was super bright and it got so hot the screen started glitching out. I had to get the whole thing replaced, which cost me over $200. Has anyone else had a phone overheat like that, and what do you do to keep it cool now?

Ugh that's the worst, sorry that happened. Did it just shut down or did the screen go all weird first? I keep mine in a little cloth bag or under my hat now if I'm out for a while, seems to help a bit.

Myrtle Beach in July? That sun is no joke. I've seen phones get hot but never fry a screen in 20 minutes.
