My buddy Jake tried to make his mom's chili for a potluck last year. He accidentally used a whole quart of beef broth instead of one cup. It was basically spicy tomato water with beans floating in it. We still gave him a hard time about his "chili soup." He had to order pizzas for everyone instead.

Used to think you could just eyeball liquids in chili, no big deal. Had a batch turn into bean soup once from adding too much stock. Now I measure the broth every single time, even if the recipe is one I know by heart. Watching a pot of chili water down taught me that lesson for good.
