Had a horse go down on me while pulling a shoe in a muddy paddock

Honestly, it was in this client's field near Bend after a heavy rain. The gelding shifted his weight and just sat back, trapping my foot. I had to talk real quiet and get him to lean forward again before I could move. Anyone else had a close call with a horse sitting down during a trim?

Oh man, that feeling when they start to sit is pure panic. Had a draft cross decide to take a rest mid trim in his stall, of all places. My knee was pinned against the wall and I just froze, couldn't even get my rasp out from under him. Took what felt like forever of slow breathing and coaxing before he grunted and stood back up. Mud is bad, but a tight space is its own special kind of scary.

Honestly that tight space panic is something else, it just messes with your head. Tbh the worst part is knowing you can't really move them, you're just stuck waiting on their mood. Had a similar thing happen in a wash stall once and my brain just went blank for a second. Ngl I'll take a wide open muddy mess any time, at least you've got room to get clear.

Wait, he had your rasp trapped under him too? That's a whole other level of bad luck. You're stuck, your tool is stuck, and you're just hoping he doesn't decide to roll. The stall walls make it feel like there's no escape route at all. I'd take a muddy field over that any day, at least you can stumble back. How do you even stay calm in a spot like that?
