Pro tip: I switched from a straight knife to a curved hoof knife for trimming and it changed my whole day.

For years I used a straight blade, thinking it gave me more control on the sole. About two years ago, a farrier from Kentucky showed me his curved knife. I tried it on a draft cross with a really tough, concave sole. The curve let me follow the natural shape without stopping to reposition my wrist every few seconds. My hand cramps went way down and I finished the trim faster. Anyone else make a simple tool switch that saved you a ton of effort?

Look like I knew what I was doing" is the whole point for me. The straight knife feels right in my hand and I can see exactly what I'm taking off. I tried a curved one and it just felt wrong, like I was guessing.

That part about the hand cramps going down really hits home. I stuck with a straight knife for way too long because I was stubborn and thought it made me look like I knew what I was doing. Switched to a curved blade last year and felt like an idiot for not trying it sooner. My old method was basically giving myself arthritis for no good reason. What took you so long to make the switch?
