I was struggling with a weird fabric drape for a skirt design.

I had this really stiff cotton blend that just wouldn't hang right for a circle skirt I was making. I tried steaming it, but then I remembered a trick my grandma used and soaked the whole piece in a mix of warm water and a little hair conditioner for about 20 minutes before cutting. It worked perfectly and gave it a much softer drape, but I'm wondering if that could damage some fabrics over time? Has anyone else tried something like this with different materials?

Hold up, you soaked the fabric before cutting it? That's some next level confidence right there. I would be way too scared of the whole thing shrinking weird or warping. Grandma hacks are usually solid gold though, so maybe I'm just a coward.

Wait, you don't pre-wash your fabric? I mean, what if you make the whole thing and then it shrinks the first time you wash it? All that work would be totally ruined. I could never take that risk, idk. My mom drilled that into me so hard, maybe it's just me but skipping it feels like sewing with a time bomb.
