Just watched a crew in my town set posts without tamping the base gravel. They're gonna have a lean in six months.

It's a symptom of rushing the job to get it done fast. You see this everywhere now, from quick concrete pours to shoddy drywall work. The focus is on speed over doing it right the first time. That lean will cost more to fix later than the extra ten minutes of proper tamping would have today. It's frustrating to watch because the knowledge of how to build things to last is clearly still there, it just gets ignored.

Honestly I used to think that was just how things had to be built now. But seeing a neighbor's new fence post lean over after one season, exactly like this, really showed me. That extra bit of care they skip is the whole difference between something lasting years or falling apart.

Elliot607 nailed it, my deck has the same rushed feel.
