That's solid advice from your neighbor. A little heat from a torch expands the metal and breaks the corrosion lock. Beating on it just rounds things out more. What were you working on, the stem or the crank arm?

Yeah heat is the real trick. Gotta be careful not to melt anything though, aluminum gets soft fast.
