Thirty days without floral foam in the shop
A regular asked for foam-free bouquets last month, so we tried it. I think the arrangements look better and hold up fine without it. Are other florists still depending on foam, or is it time to move on?

Totally agree we should move on from foam. We experimented with chicken wire alternatives last season and the structure holds up just as well. It feels like the whole industry is slowly making the switch.

Watch how quickly paper straws replaced plastic ones. Businesses adapted without much fuss. It's encouraging to see industries evolve.

My cousin's wedding florist in Portland switched to foam-free designs three years ago and hasn't looked back. The chicken wire method @tara15 mentioned is solid, but I've seen some shops get really creative with reusable plastic grids or even woven willow branches for structure. It seems like the biggest hurdle isn't the technique, but convincing older clients who think a bouquet needs that heavy, soaked brick of foam to be "proper." Once they see how much lighter and longer-lasting the other options are, they usually come around.
