My grandma's recipe for her old Apalachicola cornbread dressing is missing from her box and it's getting harder to find anyone who remembers it right

I drove down to the panhandle last weekend hoping to find someone at the church potluck who could write down the version with the cracklin's and boiled egg, but the only person over 70 who used to make it passed away two years ago, has anyone had any luck tracking down a lost family recipe from a small town before too many people forget?

Used to think recipes didn't matter that much, but this changes my mind.

A good recipe is like a map more than a set of rules, honestly. Once you know the basic steps, you can mess with quantities and swap ingredients, but you gotta follow the map first. I've definitely learned that the hard way with baking especially, where even a little change can wreck the whole thing. Measuring stuff out properly just saves you a ton of frustration in the long run.

Did you try asking the funeral home if they kept her recipe box? That's how I found my aunt's.
