After decades in the shop, I finally nailed down the perfect mix for core sand

I used to waste a lot of material on bad cores. My mentor back then just guessed the amounts. Now I use a scale for every part. The other day, my batch had no rejects at all. It made me think about how methods have improved. Feeling proud of this small step forward.

Wait a second, I get why you're proud, but calling your mentor's way just guessing isn't totally fair. Back in the day, they worked by feel and experience, which counts for a lot. Sure, using a scale for every part is more exact and cuts down on waste. That's a big step forward, no doubt. But it's not like the old ways were all bad, they just had different tools. Your mix working perfectly now shows how both skill and better methods come together.

Look, if your "feel" method was so great, we wouldn't have had so many failed batches and wasted material for YEARS. That "experience" often just meant sticking to the same wrong ratio out of habit. My scale costs twenty bucks and ELIMINATES the guesswork that held back actual consistency.

Twenty bucks? Honestly my scale was like sixty and I still had to return the first one.
