Bought a $60 board game expansion that completely ruined our campaign

The new rules were so broken we had to scrap the whole thing after two sessions. Anyone have a good 'house rule' fix for a game that's too easy to exploit?

Ugh, that's the worst, we had to ban a broken card after it wrecked our whole game night.
