Remember when board games were just Monopoly and a deck of cards?

I dropped about $120 on the Gloomhaven box a few years back, thinking it would be our group's new epic thing. We played it twice and the setup was such a chore that it just killed the vibe, lol. Now it's a fancy doorstop in my closet. Anyone else buy a game that totally flopped for your crew?

Tried to get my group into Scythe with its whole farming mech thing. Honestly, the setup felt like a second job and the rules explanation put two people to sleep. I see what @butler.mark means about the quiet before the storm, but our storm was just everyone checking their phones.

Honestly that setup time is part of the fun for some groups. My crew actually enjoys the ritual of laying out the map tiles and sorting the monster cards. It builds anticipation, like getting ready for a movie night. Games like that are a whole evening event, not a quick thing. The box is a promise of a big shared project, not just a simple game.

Yeah, you get it. That whole process of unboxing and setting up is like the quiet before the storm. My group does the same thing, passing around the bag of tokens and arguing about which mini goes where. It's part of the hang.
