Remember those 'smart' forks that were supposed to track your eating? I bought one for $90 in 2018.

Watching tech try to solve simple human stuff always cracks me up. It's like the smart water bottles that shame you for not drinking enough, or those apps that nag you to stand up and breathe. We keep inventing gadgets to fix problems that a little bit of paying attention would solve. I bet that fork is in a drawer next to a juicer you used twice.

My friend bought a $200 smart yoga mat that lights up to show your hand placement. She used it maybe three times before it became a really expensive cat bed. I have a smart scale that sends guilt trip charts to my phone every morning. It's all just expensive clutter that makes you feel bad for being a normal, forgetful person.

That smart yoga mat story is the perfect example. It makes me wonder if the real problem these gadgets solve is just our own anxiety about not doing things perfectly. Like, does anyone actually need a light up mat to learn yoga, or are we just buying the idea of a quick fix for being a beginner? I saw an ad for a smart mirror that critiques your squat form and just felt tired.
