Update: That week I tried to save $200 by painting my garage floor myself

Last Tuesday I started painting my garage floor with a $40 epoxy kit from the hardware store. I skipped the etching step because the directions looked complicated. By Thursday the paint was peeling off in sheets where my tires hit it. Friday morning I found a puddle of chemicals eating through the concrete because I mixed the activator wrong. Now I'm looking at spending $300 on a professional grind and seal job to fix it. Has anyone else had a garage floor project turn into a nightmare like this?

Did you try scraping the loose stuff and using a floor primer before the new coat?

Did basically the same thing with a budget stain job on my basement floor. Mixed the sealer wrong and ended up with something that looked like a dog had been sick on the concrete. Wife said it gave the room character. I said it gave the room a reason to call a professional. Ended up paying a guy $450 to grind everything down and start fresh. Now I just nod politely when people talk about DIY projects and quietly keep the number of a good contractor in my phone.
