Just realized my basic torch works just as well for most of my projects
I've been using a simple propane torch for years, and it handles everything from pipes to small sculptures. A lot of glassblowers argue that you need a fancy, expensive torch to do quality work, but I don't buy it. I tried a buddy's high-end model, and while it was a bit faster, my pieces came out the same. The cost difference is huge, and for someone like me who does this as a side gig, saving money matters. On the other hand, I get that pros might rely on premium gear for speed and consistency. But for beginners or casual artists, starting cheap lets you learn without breaking the bank. I think skill matters more than the tool most of the time. What do you all think, am I way off base here?

No way, you're making SCULPTURES with a regular propane torch? That blows my mind. I always thought you needed way more control for details like that. My cousin tried to do a small glass animal with a basic torch and it just melted into a blob. The fact you can shape anything beyond a pipe is insane. You must have some serious hands to pull that off. Makes me wonder if I've been wasting money on fancy gear too.

Your cousin's blob, @the_david, has me questioning if I should even try glass art lmao.

Disagree completely on this one. Look at what happened with @faith_carr56 seeing that blob, that's the usual result with basic gear. A good torch gives you real control over the flame, which is everything for detail work (you can't just muscle your way through it). Sure, skill matters, but the right tool lets that skill actually show up in the glass instead of fighting a weak flame all day.
