My kid asked why we always cut glass inside out

Was showing my daughter a simple square cut. She pointed at the score line and said 'it looks like a secret map.' Made me realize I'd stopped seeing the craft, just the job. Anyone else have a moment like that?

Betty's right, that outside score controls the whole break.

Wait, is your kid saying the score line looks like a map on the inside of the glass? That's a cool way to see it. But just to be clear, we always score on the side we want to be the outside surface. It's a control thing, the fracture follows the score inward. So the 'map' is actually on the outside face first.
