A customer told me my trigger jobs felt 'like stepping on a Lego'

He brought in his 1911 last month and said the break was so sharp it hurt his finger. I'd been polishing sears to a mirror finish thinking that was the goal, but he wanted a smooth roll instead. Anyone else had to completely rethink a basic technique because of client feedback?

Guess you were polishing for a sniper rifle instead of a pistol...

My uncle was a competitive shooter and he always said a clean barrel matters more for long range. He claimed a dirty pistol might still hit a man-sized target at 25 yards, but a speck in a rifle barrel throws off a shot at 500. That extra polish time makes sense for a sniper setup.

Your uncle's advice about clean barrels is solid, but a speck of dirt won't magically make you miss at 500 yards. The real issue is consistency, where any change in the barrel, clean or dirty, can shift your point of impact. That's why competitive shooters are so strict about their cleaning routines.
