Shoutout to the old guy at the range who said to try a dab of valve grinding compound on a sticky extractor

I mean, I tried it on a 1911 that was giving me grief, and after a couple cycles it smoothed right out, but now I'm wondering if that's a legit fix or if I just got lucky and maybe it's just me but has anyone else dealt with this?

Heard that trick before, it's an old school hack for breaking in a tight fit. Just make sure you clean all that grit out real good after.

Old tricks work sometimes. That grit is nasty though, gotta clean it all out.

Wait you actually put valve grinding compound in your 1911? That stuff is like 80 grit sandpaper in a tube, man. I'd be terrified of getting any of that grit in the trigger group or the slide rails.
