My phone dying mid-hike has me rethinking how we find our way

I mean, tech helps avoid getting lost, but maybe it's just me but using a paper map feels more connected to the trail. What's your take on this?

Yeah, the part about paper maps feeling more connected really hits home... I was using my phone for this trail by the old mill last fall, and the screen just went black. I had to find my way back by following the creek sound, which was kinda scary but also weirdly cool.

Wow, nothing like going full caveman because your tech failed! Sounds like a weird hidden feature for getting back to nature.

That creek by the old mill has such a tricky spot for signal. I totally get that mix of being scared but also feeling weirdly alive when you have to find your own way.
