TIL my quick wiki checks for pirate history were full of errors

I used to just scan wiki pages for pirate bios and dates. After I stopped and read actual ship logs and court records, I saw how many details were made up. Now my understanding of Blackbeard's last stand is based on facts, not stories. It saved me from embarrassing mistakes in my forum posts.

Man, I totally feel your pain on this one. I used to rely on wiki for quick facts on ancient battles, and let me tell you, some of it was WAY off. Once I started digging into actual military reports, the difference was night and day. Having those solid sources makes your forum arguments so much stronger. It's a lesson we all learn the hard way, but it's WORTH it.

Hey, about those military reports, how do you make sure they're not just boasting?

Even primary sources like ship logs had captains trying to make themselves look good. You still have to read between the lines and compare accounts. It makes checking multiple records the real key, not just swapping wiki for one old book.
