My uncle called my junk drawer hoarding 'organized chaos' and it stuck with me
He came over to help me fix a lamp and pulled out three different screwdrivers from my junk drawer before finding the right one. He said I keep too much stuff that I think I'll need but never actually grab. That comment made me toss out about half the contents that day, like old keys to locks I don't even own and a pile of takeout menus from places that closed years ago. Ever had someone point out a habit you didn't even see yourself?

Yeah exactly. I did the same thing after my buddy needed a wrench and I dug through two drawers full of random bolts and bent nails. He didn't say anything but his face said it all. I keep a junk drawer now but I set a rule. If I haven't touched something in a year it goes. Spare screws and takeout menus are the first to get tossed. Feels a lot cleaner now.

Oh man that's a good rule. I used to be the opposite honestly, I thought junk drawers were just part of life and you had to keep all that random stuff. But after reading your post it finally clicked for me. I just went through mine last night and tossed like three years of old menus and screws from furniture I don't even own anymore. Feels way better now, like I can actually find stuff when I need it.
