Got scammed by a fake landlord showing a house that wasn't his
I found a sweet rental in Austin for $900 a month, met the guy at the property, and he even had keys to the front door. Turns out he was just squatting there and collected my deposit before I ever signed anything. Has anyone else dealt with a rental scam where the person actually had access to the building?

Guess that's one way to get a "key" to the rental market. At least he didn't ask for first and last month's rent AND a security deposit in Bitcoin.

Man, that's wild. He actually had keys? That's a whole other level of scam. So was he just living there already or squatting with furniture and all? Did you check the county property records after to see who really owned the place? I bet that dude is long gone by now with your cash.
