My landlord sued me because my cat 'looked too happy'

I moved into a no-pets apartment in Chicago last year but somehow my orange tabby escaped to the hall and the maintenance guy snapped a photo of him purring. The landlord tried to evict me saying the cat's 'visible joy' violated the lease spirit, but the judge laughed it out in 5 minutes. Has anyone else dealt with a landlord that takes rules way too seriously?

Used to roll my eyes at pet rules but wow that judge nailed it.

@davis.casey you're totally right and honestly I used to be in the "landlords have a point" camp but stories like this just make me laugh. I mean a cat looking happy? That's a whole new level of strict.
