Vent: A stranger at the hardware store asked me to divine which lock would 'resist psychic intrusion'...

I was just picking up some spare parts when this guy corners me near the deadbolts, recognizing my work shirt... he proceeded to explain in detail how his previous locks were compromised by 'mental vibrations' from his neighbor. I tried to keep a straight face while suggesting a high-security cylinder, but he kept asking if I could sense any 'auras' from the packaging... ended up spending twenty minutes discussing metaphysical lock theory instead of grabbing my springs. Honestly, some days I feel more like a therapist than a locksmith...

I mean, I once had a guy ask if his drywall was haunted.

Honestly wonder if Patricia's neighbor and the haunted drywall guy would get along! Sometimes people just really don't want to admit it's a basic mechanical failure, like a loose pipe or bad tape job.

In my experience, these kinds of stories pop up all the time in home repair forums. It's amusing how quickly folks leap to hauntings or curses before checking for a loose joint or worn seal. Maybe it's more entertaining to imagine a ghost in the walls than to admit it's just poor craftsmanship or age. Your mileage may vary, but nine times out of ten, a thorough inspection reveals a mundane cause. Is it really that serious to call in a spiritual cleanser for a leaking pipe? Probably not. Take this with a grain of salt, but I'd bet both those cases were solved with basic tools and know-how.

A neighbor once insisted her plumbing was cursed after a series of leaks. She called in a spiritual cleanser before finally hiring a real plumber. What's the weirdest explanation you've heard for a home repair issue?
