Just realized my grandpa's 'use it up, wear it out' rule actually saves way more than any fancy tool I've bought

He told me last month that his 50 year old hand saw still cuts straighter than my new one because he taught me how to sharpen it right, and now I'm wondering why I ever bought that electric jigsaw for a dozen cuts.

My grandpa had the same 50 year old hammer until he lost it last summer, but I'm not sure that proves much. Is one tool really the hill you want to die on? Because I've got a jigsaw that's saved me three hours of work on a single fence project, and that time adds up to more than the saw cost me. Plus, I bet your grandpa also thinks his 1972 Ford is better than any modern car, and that's just not true for most people. But hey, if it works for your one or two cuts a year, then more power to you.
