Alright, I'll eat my words. That meditation guide for auditory focus actually works.

Yeah, it's great that guide helped, but I'm always skeptical when they market auditory focus as a one-size-fits-all solution. In my experience, it's less about blocking out noise and more about learning to let it pass without attachment. Most beginners get frustrated because they think they need complete silence, which isn't practical. Sticking with it is what builds the real skill, not just following steps from a guide.

See this all the time with DIY culture too, where people want instant results without the grind. @bailey.miles is right about sticking with it being the real skill. Society conditions us for plug-and-play solutions, especially in wellness, but actual mastery needs consistent practice, not just checking steps off a list. Watched a buddy quit headspace because he treated meditation like a chore instead of learning to roll with the mental noise.

Ugh, yeah, the expectation of silence totally messed me up when I first tried meditating. I remember just sitting there getting more annoyed at every car that drove by, treating it like a personal failure. Took forever to realize the point was to notice the sound and let the frustration go, not to build a soundproof room in my brain.
