My brother swore I'd love The Lobster and I wanted to throw a shoe at the screen after 20 minutes
He said it was hilarious and quirky but I sat there watching people get turned into animals for no reason and felt my soul drain out. Has anyone else been tricked into watching a 'comedy' that was actually just depressing?

Wait, did you actually make it through the whole 20 minutes or did you bail early? I had a buddy tell me that "The Lobster" was the funniest thing he'd seen all year, and I sat there waiting for the punchline for an hour before I realized it wasn't coming. The whole vibe of that movie just felt like someone took a dark joke, stretched it out way too long, and forgot to add the joke part. It's like when someone says a band is "experimental" and you spend the whole concert wondering if they forgot how to play their instruments.

Is there a chance you're overthinking it, @park.iris? I watched the whole thing and honestly the dry absurdity is what makes it funny, not a traditional punchline.
