Rant: Walked out of that new A.I. horror flick after 20 minutes

I finally gave in and watched that movie where the robot nanny goes rogue and I swear the acting was so robotic it made me miss my old Nokia ringtone. The scene where the kid just stares at a blinking light for five straight minutes did me in. Anyone else bail on a hyped movie early this week and find something decent to replace it?

Bro, I bailed on that ghost hunting show after 10 minutes, felt like watching paint dry.

Wait, did anyone else catch how the blinking light thing was actually a reference to that old 80s movie where the kid communicates with the alien through a flashing toy? I read that somewhere, the director said it was a homage or whatever, but the execution was just painful. The problem is they stretched a five second idea into five minutes of dead air because they thought it was deep or something. I honestly think horror movies are so scared of being funny that they forget a little humor makes the scary parts actually work better. That whole sequence needed a punchline or a jump scare, not just a kid zoning out at a nightlight.
