One judge's comment about my restoration made me strip it all down

I was showing my 1940s Philco radio at a meet in Portland and a vintage radio guy said 'nice cabinet, but you killed the patina with that gloss finish.' So I spent 3 weekends sanding it back and using tung oil instead, and now it actually looks 80 years old instead of a prop. Has anyone else had to redo a whole piece because one comment got under their skin?

That comment would've haunted me too. There's something about a stranger's offhand remark that just sticks in your brain and won't let go, even when you thought you were done with the project. Good on you for trusting your gut and going back to oil, it's amazing how much warmer the wood looks now.
