Bought a $30 'Remastered' copy of a 2003 classic and it's just a broken emulator

I saw this old PS2 game I loved as a kid got a re-release on Steam for $30. Figured it'd be a no-brainer to relive some memories. Turns out they literally just slapped a free emulator on it with a DRM wrapper and called it a day. Game crashes every 20 minutes, text is all blurry, and the sound skips like a scratched disc. I spent 3 hours trying to get it to work before I gave up. Wasted the money and my Friday night. Anyone else get burned by these lazy cash grabs?

Grabbed one of those re-releases of a 2003 shooter and ran into the same wall. Ended up just pirating the original PS2 version and running it through PCSX2 instead. Took maybe ten minutes to set up and it ran smooth as butter at 1080p with no crashes. The annoying part is I paid for something that should have worked out of the box, but the community fix was free and actually functional. At this point I just check if the original ROM runs better before buying any "remaster.

One buddy of mine grabbed a $40 "HD remaster" of a PS1 game last year and it was the same deal, a glitchy emulator with none of the original texture filtering fixed. He said the loading screens took longer than the actual gameplay and the audio desynced during every cutscene. Ended up refunding it after two hours and just downloading the original ISO instead, which ran perfectly with zero effort.
