That feeling really hits hard, especially when you think you've found a hidden gem. @juliawalker brought up something good about checking eBay sold listings, I do that too now after getting burned similar. My worst was a lot that had like 15 copies of Madden from different years mixed in with a few scratched up PS1 games. The guy in the ad had it all stacked nice and the cover games were good but the stack underneath was pure filler. Ended up selling the whole thing at a garage sale for like fifteen bucks just to get it out of my house. The whole market feels like gambling sometimes, you just gotta be really careful about what you're actually seeing in those pictures.

Oh man, that's rough but honestly it's part of a bigger thing I've noticed lately. Everyone thinks old games are pure gold just because they're old or have a nostalgic cover. But half the time it's just junk nobody wanted even back then. I've seen people overpay for common sports titles or beat-up copies of games that were never good to begin with. The whole retro game market has gotten a little wild with people pricing stuff based on vibes instead of actual value. Your mileage may vary but I've started checking sold listings on eBay before even looking at lots like that.
