That time my cat nearly choked on a felt mouse tail

I was in my living room last Tuesday watching my cat play with a DIY felt mouse I made, and she swallowed the whole tail in one gulp. I had to pry her mouth open and pull it out before she ran under the couch. Has anyone else had close calls with loose parts on homemade toys?

Oh man, I've been there with the felt toys. I started stitching the tails on two or three times and running a bead of fabric glue along the seam after that. Haven't had one come off since. You could also try using a safety pin or a few stitches of thick thread through the tail and the body so it's really secured in there.

...and honestly, after you do all that stitching and glue from @paige514's method, it's pretty much bulletproof. I've had kids in my family go at those toys like they're trying to tear the tail off and they still hold up fine.
