Tried making those braided fleece dog toys and my sewing machine ate my project at 2am
Was on my night off last Wednesday, got the bright idea to make my husky a new toy. Had all this fleece leftover from a baby blanket I never finished. Watched a youtube tutorial that said to just cut strips and braid them. Easy right? Well I got 3 braids done and decided to use the sewing machine to stitch the ends. Big mistake. Machine jammed so bad I had to cut the whole thing apart. Now I have a pile of fleece strips and a husky staring at me like I broke a promise. Anyone else have better luck hand sewing these things?

Nah, I'm gonna go against the grain here and say the sewing machine is actually the right tool for this, you just gotta know what you're doing with fleece. Running it through on a zigzag stitch with the pressure foot barely touching the fabric is the secret, cause fleece is so stretchy it'll fight back if you give it any kind of tension. I've made probably 20 of those braided toys now and hand sewing the ends just lets them unravel way too fast, my dog would have them destroyed in an hour. Sounds like your machine just needs a little adjustment or maybe a fresh needle that's actually meant for knit fabrics. Bet if you pinned the ends down tight and went slow it'd work fine.
