Wasted $60 on a 'restored' VCR that still eats tapes

I bought this so called professionally restored VCR off a guy on Facebook Marketplace last week for $60 based on the photos and good reviews. Pop in a rare copy of The Muppet Movie that I wanted to rewatch and the machine just chomped on the tape and warped it beyond use. Has anyone else gotten burned by fake restorations on old electronics?

Those marketplace guys always slap a "restored" sticker on anything that turns on.
