My sister saw me organizing my spice collection by pH level and said I was taking it too far, but then she couldn't find her cumin for 20 minutes

She argued that sorting by color or frequency of use makes more sense, but in my experience putting acidic spices like paprika and turmeric together actually keeps them fresher longer because they react with similar moisture levels, so has anyone else found a good middle ground between functional and weird with their pantry systems?

Acidic spices together keeps them fresher" is the most brilliant thing I've heard all week. I'm totally trying this.

Terry that "acidic spices together" thing is something else. I had a buddy who tried it with his chili powder and cumin, threw in some lime zest too. He said the batch stayed bright and punchy for like two weeks longer than usual. Normally his spices would go dull after a week or so, but that combo really held its own. He's been doing it ever since, swears by it for his curry mixes too. It's wild how a little acid can lock in the freshness like that.
