Appreciation post: neighbor lady showed me how to layer onions on the bottom of the slow cooker to keep meat from burning.

That thing about onions being cheap really sticks with me @gavin_allen48. My grandma used to say the same thing about celery actually. She'd chop up the whole bunch and throw it in the bottom of the pot roast pan, not just to keep things from burning but because she said it was a waste not to use it. I started doing that with all my cheap veggies too, like the ends of bell peppers or that half an onion that's starting to get a little soft. Helps stretch the meal and honestly keeps everything tasting better.

Wow yeah that's a solid tip. I've been doing something similar for years. I toss sliced onions or sometimes even just a layer of carrot chunks on the bottom. Keeps the meat from sticking and burning for sure. Also adds flavor to the drippings which is nice. I learned that trick from my mom actually. She always said onions are cheap so why not use them.
