Accidentally found a hack for cutting soda can tabs without mangling them

I kept ruining tabs trying to separate them for earrings with wire cutters. Then I grabbed a pair of needle nose pliers from my toolbox in Chicago and twisted the tab sideways until it popped off clean. Worked perfect on about 15 Mountain Dew cans I tested. Anyone else got a weird tool that works better than standard stuff for can art?

Does the screwdriver really work, @margaretk89, or does it just bend the can more than the pliers trick?

Heard someone mention using a flathead screwdriver to wedge between the tab and the can for a clean pop. Might be worth a shot if you're out of pliers (though that twisting trick sounds solid).
