I finally got why some people use pop tabs for chainmaille after my buddy showed me how he made a bracelet

He sat me down with 50 tabs and a pair of pliers last weekend and after 20 minutes of failing I realized the whole trick is the spiral fold which he said makes them link way stronger than standard rings, has anyone else found a better folding method?

Wait, fifty tabs? Like from fifty different cans? That's a lot of soda or beer just for a bracelet, man. I can't imagine sitting there drinking all of those just to have enough to mess with.

Nina's got a point about the sheer volume of pop tabs needed, but you can actually get them faster by asking friends or hitting up a bar. Bartenders usually throw out cases of tabs after kegs, so you can grab a brown bag full without drinking a thing. The spiral fold is solid, but I've heard of people flattening the tab first and then doing a double twist with needlenose pliers, makes the links sit tighter and less likely to snag on clothes.
