Vent: went to a flea market in Portland last weekend and saw someone selling crushed can art for $50 a pop

Honestly half of them were just dented cans with a magnet glued on, not even shaped into anything. Is that really considered art or just lazy upcycling?

Portland's art scene has always been full of that kind of stuff. Slapping a magnet on a dented can and calling it a day is just taking people for a ride. Those "artists" know tourists will buy anything with a story attached. If you're gonna charge $50 at least put some actual work into it and shape the thing into something recognizable. The whole "upcycling" trend has just become an excuse for lazy people to sell garbage.

Hang on @gavin_allen48 is it really that deep though? I get being annoyed at overpriced junk but calling it a whole scam feels a bit much. Some people just like weird little trinkets and that's okay isn't it?

$50 is a lot but some of those recycled pieces are genuinely clever, @gavin_allen48.
