Was convinced acoustic foam panels were a scam... then I tried making my own and changed my tune.
I spent months thinking those cheap foam squares people stick on their walls were just for looks. Figured it was all placebo. Then my buddy who records podcasts kept telling me my voice sounded hollow in my Zoom calls from the spare room. I bought a pack of 12 panels for $30 off Amazon, glued them to cardboard, and hung them behind my desk. First call after, the other person said it sounded like I was in a real studio. So is the cheap foam legit or do you need the expensive rockwool stuff to really make a difference? What side of this debate are you on?

$30 for 12 panels is a steal. Honestly the cheap stuff works fine for killing echo in a small room, you don't need rockwool unless you're tracking drums.

Can't believe the foam was only $30 for 12 panels though. I paid almost double that for a smaller pack at a local music shop and I'm kicking myself now. Does the cardboard backing actually help that much or is it just for hanging them up?
