Vent: Adopted a bamboo phone case to cut plastic use, but now I'm debating if it's just greenwashing. Thoughts on truly sustainable tech?

Who decides what's truly sustainable if not by trying alternatives like bamboo?

Look at bamboo farming in parts of China, where it's monocropped. The sustainability gets murky when you factor in processing and shipping. Most bamboo fabric is chemically intensive viscose, and that's before it gets shipped globally. The full lifecycle audit is what's missing from most "alternative" claims.

Trying bamboo reminds me of @the_eric's cork... eye-opening parallels.

My cousin swore by her cork yoga mat for years, claiming it was the ultimate green purchase. Turns out the cork harvesting in Portugal wasn't as regulated as she thought, and the shipping footprint was massive. Makes you wonder if any single material can be a silver bullet, right?
