I was wrong about those old metal lunchboxes in my dad's attic
For years I just saw my dad's old metal lunchboxes as rusty junk taking up space. He had about 15 of them from the 1950s and 60s, all beat up and covered in scratches. I nearly tossed the whole lot last month when I was clearing out the attic after he passed. Then my buddy who collects vintage toys stopped by and spotted a Roy Rogers one with a thermos still inside. He offered me $80 for it on the spot, and after checking eBay, some of these things go for over $200. Now I'm sorting through the rest and actually looking up values instead of just tossing them. Has anyone else stumbled onto unexpected money from stuff they thought was worthless up there?

Well isn't that just the story of every attic everywhere. You almost threw away a small fortune because it looked like junk, that's exactly how it goes in my house too. My husband nearly put a stack of old baseball cards in the recycling bin about ten years ago, turned out one of them was a Mickey Mantle rookie that paid for our entire kitchen remodel. The funny thing is we call it "trash picking" now like we're professional junk sifters instead of just lucky packrats. You better go through every single one of those lunchboxes with a fine tooth comb before you make another trip to the dump. And for goodness sake keep that Roy Rogers thermos safe those are worth more than the box sometimes.
